Siachen translated gives the meaning "The place of abundant roses", this was situated in Eastern Karakoram range of  Himalayas at an altitude of 5753m above sea level. Covering an area of 700 square kilometers. It records temperature up to  -50° C with an average winter snowfall of 35 feet height. This is the toughest place to survive and Coldest Battlefield where our Soldier's working for their Mother Land.

Conflict with Pakistan :

We all know that the major conflict issue between India and Pakistan is Kashmir. This Siachen is also part of this conflict zone. But, this was unpopulated and deserted due to its wild environmental and weather conditions till 1970. But, during the period between 1970's and 1980's Pakistan with official Government orders have attempted many expeditions to hold the glacier under their control. Once getting aware of this, Indian Army Colonel Narendra Kumar also mounted Indian Army on the Siachen as a counter-exercise for Pakistan Army. On 13th April 1984 Indian Air Force launched a mission called "Meghdoot" which means "Divine Cloud Messenger".

As a counter, Pakistan Armed force also responded quickly and deployed its troop with a race to Siachen top. Within a week Indian Army got an upper hand over Pakistani Soldiers and got control over most of the Siachen. They undertook two of three of the Mountain passes namely Sia la and Blindfold La where one pass Gyong was secured by Pakistan.

Now, India is safeguarding on a higher altitude and at lower altitude, Pakistan is safeguarding. The situation at present in Siachen is Pakistan can't come up and India can't come down. Two countries are maintaining their armies at severe conditions for their respective Nations.
