KALIKHO PUL - Story of An Orphan to Cheif Minister

KALIKHO PUL the name it's self has a powerful meaning 'Better Tomorrow' . Let's have a look who he is and how an Orphan turned to Carpenter and Chowkidar to Cheif Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

Childhood :

Like all , Pul did not have his Childhood in the lap of his mother and love of his father. He lost his mother when he was 13months old baby and his father at the age of 5 and he was then bought up by his aunt.

He did not went to school, instead he went to jungle to collect the firewood for his aunt family and in return to she used to feed him for his work. He used to have hunger days when he fails to collect the wood from jungle. Later, he under went a two year training course in carpentry at the Hawai Craft Centre and used to get a stipend of Rs 1.5 a day and started leading independent life. He got  excelled in Carpentry within no time and started making things by his own, he got his stipend hike for his skills. One day , he got an opportunity to work there as a tutor for 96 days in the absence of an instructor who went on leave. Those days, Army officers and senior government officials used to visit the centre to place orders.

Pul has no knowledge in other languages, where as the government officials and Officer's used to speak more in Hindi and English when they came to place their odrers. He then decided to learn Hindi and went to night school and joined in 1st standard at the age of 11. One day, an official function was held at the education centre, which was attended by education minister. He delivered the welcome speech in Hindi and also sang a patriotic song. So impressed was the Deputy Commissioner that he asked officials to put him in a day boarding school.Within days, He joined in class VI. Later, he got the job of a chowkidar at the Circle Office, Hawai, at a monthly salary of Rs.212 . Hoisting and lowering the national flag was part of his job.

 Tough Phase :

Years after,  Pul started to ran a pan shop and in parallel he managed to do some bamboo construction related contracts. But not every day is ours as yesterday. He suffered from chronic gastric problem for six long years, beginning 1980. He had just Rs1600 with and  approached his relatives where One offered just Rs 2 and another Rs5. He then realized that he was an orphan. One day, he made up his mind to commit suicide and walked up to the bridge over the river Lohit and  stood there for 40 minutes but couldn’t take the extreme step due to the presence of people. He dropped from his attempt of committing sucide and went to The Deputy Commissioner he met as a child several years back, he underwent the treatment and in due course repaid it for an amount of 2500. He appealed for the Cheif Minister to grant amount on his medical sick and he got it sanctioned.

Contractor turned Politician :

He never neglected his studies, he managed to do contracts and he became owner of four 4 trucks. He spend his money which are profited from his contracts for the medical treatment of poor people. He was abled to pass his Intermediate and then he joined in Degree and became the General Secretary for College student association. On completing his Degree he later joined in Law college and managed his contracts too. He got reputated for his Quality works and many government contracts were in his hands without bidding.

                  He got Famous as a Businessman for his Helping nature within no time. He then got offered with MLA seat from Congress Party and won as MLA . At the age of 23 he became Minister and then Cheif Minister. In his 23years of Political Career he worked as Minister for 22 years which shows how people loved and trusted him. His House in Itanagar is more a Hospital than a residence, he provided medical facility for people 24hours at his home itself thinking that no one should face his problem just because lacking of Money.

" Not every successful story has happy ending ", Kalikho Pul has faced many Political crises from February 2016. He got into depression and committed for Sucide on August 9th 2016 in his residence by hanging to ceiling fan. Police has seized a dairy of 60 page secret note written by Kalikho Pul. Later, wife of Pul approached the Vice President of India for an independent probe by a Special Investigation Team as the charges are against Supreme Court judges, including the former Chief Justice of India, Justice Khehar Singh. Apart from his dark phase, his struggling life and Achievements inspires many.
